  1. Staff Appraisal

Appraise the entire academic staff of the programme/sub-discipline/discipline

  • Adequacy in number, qualification and experience (State average student to staff ratio)
  • Effectiveness of lecturers
  • Professional achievements.

(a)       Staff/Student Ratio

The department has 9 academic staff and 133 students between 200 – 500 levels. Therefore the Staff: Student ratio is approximately 1:16.

(b)       Staff Mix by Rank

The department has 2 full time professors, 1 full time reader, 1 full time senior lecturer and 1 adjunct senior lecturer. Others include 4 full time lecturers in the rank of lecturer I and 2 adjunct lecturers in the rank of lecturer I. This totaled to 11 lecturers giving a staff structure of approximately 22:33:44 for Professors/Readers: Senior Lecturers: Lecturer I and below respectively.

(c)       Qualifications of the Academic Staff

There are 9 lecturers in the department with Ph.D degree in Engineering. This is about 82 %.

(d) Professional Achievements/Staff Contribution to Engineering and Industry

The professional achievements and contributions of staff members in our department are very commendable. Most of our staff members are registered by COREN. Some are members of learned societies and associations such as Nigeria Society of Engineers, (NSE), Material Science and Technology Society of Nigeria (MSN), Polymer Institute of Nigeria (PIN), Chemical Society of Nigeria etc. Some of our lecturers are consultants to many industrial firms within and outside Anambra State. Dr. Mrs. C. M. Obele is among the team that won the 2014 PTDF grant to research on the engineering design and production of oil and gas facilities using plastic reinforced with plantain fiber. Engr. Dr. C. M. Ewulonu and Engr. S. R. Odera are among the UNIZIK Technical Research and Development Group that established a paint production factory in the university. Engr. O. O. Emea is the Technical Secretary of Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), the Acting Chairman Nigeria Institute of Mechanical Engineers, Awka branch and the 2014 most enterprising exhibitor Award Winner of the African Arts and Craft. He has also fabricated weaving looms for several higher institutions and provides consultancy services to them. Engr. Dr. C. M. Ewulonu is an editorial member of two engineering journals (Journal of Polymer Engineering and Related Disciplines and American Journal of Polymer Science and Technology) and a reviewer for several science and engineering journals. Engr. Prof. E. E. Nnuka is a Fellow Nigeria Metallurgical Society (FNMS), an external examiner to several institutions and has been a member, COREN Accreditation Panel that visited ESUT, Enugu. The curriculum vitae of our academic staff attached to this report in Appendix A1 can tell more.
